These two artworks were created for an exhibition entitled Pointure, opening at the UJ Gallery in Johannesburg on 8 August 2102. The exhibition featured artists such as Gerhard Marx, Walter Oltman, Leora Farber, Gavin Younge and Christiaan Diedericks. The show was curated by Ann-Marie Tully and Jennifer Kopping. The theme of the show centered on the act of sewing and puncturing surface. Collecter’s landscape 1 and 2 are an exploration of my habit of collecting found objects. These include organic material such as animal and plant matter found in the landscape in and around Johannesburg, as well as things I come across in my many visits to charity shops. The printer’s trays used in constructing these artworks speak of their history, used for newspaper printing, telling peoples’ daily stories. The images used in this work are photographs I have taken around Johannesburg, as well as little embroideries capturing the landscape. One of my favourite things to collect is tapestries, and these encompass a large part of the artworks as well.
